Please remember that Friday 26th October is a professional development day for teaching staff. The school will be closed to children.

Thank you to everyone who turned up to help paint the woodwork in the EYFS outdoor area. You did a fantastic job. If you would like to help finish off painting the fence, the ‘Friends’ will be meeting at the school on Sunday 4th November.

Bag Packing Volunteers Saturday 27th October

Our partnership with Church Stretton Co-op has so far raised an amazing £897. For our next joint fund-raising event we need some volunteer ‘bag-packers’ to give an hour of their time on Saturday 27th October between the hours of 10.00 am and 3.00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to meet people from their local community and offer a helping hand. To volunteer please send in your reply (slip at the bottom of this newsletter) by Thursday 25th October indicating the time slot you would be available for. Please could children wear school uniform and please note parents must stay and be responsible for their children.

Please see the attached flier from Rushbury Records Trust with details of this event and the item under heritage lottery grant below. A service of remembrance will be taking place at St. Peter’s Church followed by an exhibition during the afternoon at Rushbury Village Hall.

We are delighted that our application for a heritage lottery grant has been successful. Working with Shrewsbury archivists and local residents, the older children will be researching the lives of Constance and Evelyn Brown. These sisters grew up in Rushbury and were passengers on the Lusitania, which was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland in 1915. Their family grave is in St Peter’s grave yard. Some of our work will be displayed at Rushbury Village Hall as part of the Remembrance Exhibition on Sunday 11th November. Class 1 children will be doing their own project to be displayed at this event.   Please see the attached flier for more information and do come along to the lunch.

Having visited the Spaceguard Centre, we are considering holding a ‘Night Sky’ event at Rushbury School. We would like to invite the children to spend an hour one evening observing the night sky through a telescope(s). However, we are not astronomers do not have telescopes. Does anyone know of any budding astronomers or local people who could help us with this event?

Please help us to raise funds by joining the Giving Machine which works with over 1,500 retailers. You join for free and as a Registered Charity, we can make money for nothing! Our partnership with the COOP has now raised an amazing £897. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. The money from the COOP has helped us to transform the playground. Look out for the next phase where artwork of children’s games such as hopscotch, and snakes and ladders will be added.

For our next fundraiser with the COOP we need bag packing volunteers – see slip at bottom of newsletter.

Looking ahead, we have the film night on Thursday 15th November – more details to follow.

On Thursday 18th October there was a non-uniform day to raise money for the NSPCC.   We raised a total of £52.20p.   Thank you for all the contributions.

Kim Kite is raising money next week for a Forest School tepee for the benefit of Little Acorns and Rushbury School children. “I will be travelling to India on October 22nd to trek the Dalai lama trail through the Himalayas,   camping in below freezing temperatures at night and going to high altitudes. We will be trekking for a week and walking approximately 20k-25km per day to reach each camp.” Kim’s target is £1000.00. Please sponsor her by calling into Little Acorns or sending money in an envelope to the school office (please mark your envelope Kim’s trek).

Stretton Sharks junior hockey have been running after-school sessions on School Mondays between 3.30-5.00 at the Leisure Centre sports hall for over 12 years. Sessions are run by an England Hockey qualified coach with enhanced DBS, Safegurding, 1st Aid and CPD certification. The children can go on to play in organised  games at weekends, either friendly or competitive according to age group and confidence/ability if they wish. We would be delighted to welcome more children from Rushbury School to come along and take part (we don\’t start \”proper\” coaching until 4pm to allow for travel from outside of Church Stretton.)
We will be operating a session on Monday Oct 22nd to which all newcomers are invited along and/or at the return after half-term on Monday November 5th.
