MESSAGE FROM CHAIR OF GOVERNORS

Mrs Pye continues to improve but is likely to be off work until the end of term to ensure she fully recovers. We hope to see her back full time in September.   Mr Bremner will remain the teacher in Class 3 until the end of term. In Mrs Collin’s absence Class 2 will be taught by Mrs Wilson. Apart from being a teaching assistant at the school Mrs Wilson is also a fully qualified teacher.

KEY STAGE 2 DAY OUT AT MILLICHOPE

On Friday 15th June Class 2 and 3 will be visiting the Millichope estate. All children will need to bring outdoor clothes, a packed lunch and drinks.   They will be taking part in a countryside learning day. The children will travel by school mini bus and will be accompanied by Mrs Wilson, Mrs Child and Miss Carter.

AUTHOR VISIT TO SCHOOL

On Friday 15th June author Laura McCann will be visiting our school in the morning to meet Key Stage 1 children. This visit has been funded by The Rural Charity and aims to enhance literacy and creativity in small rural schools. Parents of Class 1 children should already have received a letter with more details.

CHESS CLUB AND FRIDAY AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

There will be no chess club for the rest of this term.   The club will resume in September.   On Friday 15th June there will also be no Friday afternoon activities as Class 2 and 3 will be out at Millichope Estate.

YEAR 5 AND 6 ROUNDERS

On Thursday 14th June Class 3 will be going to Church Stretton school to play in a rounders tournament. They will travel by school mini bus and be accompanied by Mrs Wilson and Mrs Child. Please ensure the children have their PE kit in school that day. Thank you.

CHANGE OF DAY FOR FOREST SCHOOL

Mr Bennett is coming in to school for singing and music on Tuesday afternoon 12th June instead of Wednesday 13th June. Therefore forest school for Class 2 and 3 will take place on Wednesday afternoon and not Tuesday this week. Please ensure your child has his/her forest school clothing in school that day.

CLASS THREE RESPECT YOURSELF

Please be aware that week commencing 11th June Class 3 children will be following the Respect Yourself Sex Education curriculum. Their folder of work will be kept in their school bag to enable parents to keep up to date with work covered.

INTER SCHOOL ORIENTEERING COMPETITION

Congratulations to Oliver Wilson, Archie Ayres and Aidan Thomsett on gaining seventh place in the interschool orienteering competition.   Congratulations also to Maisie Momcilovic and Lois Williams on coming fourteenth. 316 children took part.

YEAR 6 TRANSITION DAY AT CHURCH STRETTON SCHOOL

On Tuesday 19th June those year 6 children who are transferring to Church Stretton will spend the day at Church Stretton School.   Parents must make their own arrangements for taking their children to and from the school.

BEGINNING AND END OF DAY ARRANGEMENTS

It has been noticed that some parents are bringing their children into school as early as 8.30 am. Please do not bring your child into the building until 8.45am. We cannot supervise their safety before this (cleaning chemicals out etc.) and teachers may not be in their classrooms or will be preparing for the day ahead. If you do need to drop your child off early please arrange pre-school care (£2 per half hour) with Miss Carter.

Also please could all parents make sure arrangements are in place to pick up their children from school at 3.15pm promptly or promptly at the end of clubs and after school care. We understand that exceptional circumstances can delay people on occasion, and should this be the case, please contact us so that we are aware. However, we have noticed that a number of children are regularly picked up late. This is unfair on the children and delays everybody’s work. If your child is not picked up punctually you will be charged £2 which is the rate per half hour for after school care.

SUMMER FAYRE

Please note the change of date for the Summer Fayre. This event will now take place on Thursday, July 5th from 5pm. Children, families and the local community are invited to join in the fun, which will include the traditional wet slide, a barbecue, bottle and pudding stalls, obstacle course, bouncy castle and welly throw to name a few. Please see attached flyer.

DOGS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS

Will parents please not bring dogs onto the school playground or field. Thank you.

NETBALL CLUB

A new U11 netball club has started each Friday, 5.30 – 7.00pm, at the Outdoor Courts at Church Stretton Leisure Centre. It’s organised by Flames Netball and is aimed at all children in years 4, 5 and 6. It costs £3 per session.

“Netball is a great sport for learning life lessons and developing personal skills beyond those used on the court. The philosophy within Flames Netball Club is to develop great young people as a priority since they make the best players in life.”

“Through regular training sessions and matches we aim to create a club environment that promotes: enjoyment, friendships, skill development, an understanding of teamwork, individual achievement and above all respect for each other in a sporting environment.”

It’s a wonderful opportunity to be taught be highly experienced coaches (Nikki used to play for England!). Please do come along if you can!
