December at Rushbury

The children in Key Stage 1 enjoyed an exciting Victorian day at Blists Hill museum.

As soon as the children arrived they were dressed in Victorian clothes and treated like Victorian school children. Having to march down to the classroom to take part in a Victorian lesson proved to be very different from their normal school day.

December started with the children singing carols at Wilderhope Manor Christmas market.

The event was a huge success and the children received many compliments about their

Meanwhile, together with Sue Pinsent, the children in class 2 have planted fruit trees next to the vegetable garden. We hope to use the fruit in future cookery lessons.

The terracotta Nativity scene made by the children will be displayed in St Andrew’s Church, Hope Bowdler.

Visitors to St Edith’s Church, Eaton-Under-Heywood, will also see a wonderful collage created in their art lessons with Barbara Stubbs.

The children organised the annual Christmas Farmers’ Market.

As well as inviting local traders, the children made their own produce to sell. They baked cakes, fruit crumbles and biscuits; made Christmas decorations and wrapping paper; invented games and came up with lots of ideas. The event was a huge success.

Thank you to Percy Thrower’s Garden Centre for donating this year’s Christmas Tree as part of a competition to decorate a tree using recyclable materials.

The children came up with some fantastic ideas. At the end of term, the tree was moved to       St Peter’s Church to be enjoyed by the whole community.

Term ended with our Christmas Service at St Peter’s Church, Rushbury.

The children told the Christmas story through poetry and song. Mrs Karen Kirkland (our woodwind teacher) conducted the children as they performed an excellent rendition of Silent Night. It was wonderful to hear so many talented musicians playing together. The group included saxophones, clarinets, flutes and keyboards.
